Agandi munywani! Hello friend!
Help Us Empower Girls in Uganda!
We are so thankful that you are here and somehow, found your way to our little home on the internet, connecting us across the globe. It is our heartfelt mission to end cycles of poverty in the Kitojo Region by empowering girls. We do this through providing the opportunity for education, housing, healthcare and income generating programs.
Kitojo Empowered Girls School devotes its efforts to disadvantaged and orphaned girls, ages 3 to 12, who would otherwise receive little or no education and often stay at home or accompany their guardians and parents in their efforts to earn income, for example, at the stone quarry.
We serve our local community by supporting these three groups of girls:
Girls currently working in local rock quarries. KEGS aims to help girls get out of the unsafe situation of working in local rock quarries and ideally, help them before they start working there. By providing these girls another option, we can help them transition into school and away from the dangers of childhood labor. Young, uneducated girls often resort to low paying, hazardous jobs like working in the local rock quarry. They are more likely to suffer frequent rape, unwanted babies or early motherhood. As such, a generational cycle of poverty continues.
Single and no parent girls unable to attend any school. When a child loses a parent, it can be very difficult for the only parent to raise the children and afford to send them to school. When the father dies, the mother has a very difficult time providing for her children.
Any disadvantaged girls or girls in need in the community. We don’t turn any girls away, we aim to have enough funding to be able to help all girls who need it. There are many in our community who need our help and we need yours to make a difference!
“If you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.”
— African Proverb
